Interview with Michael Epps

Hello Michael. Would you like to introduce yourself to my readers?

My name is Michael Epps, and I'm probably the best portrait photographer, you will ever come across in your life. Richard Avedon and Irving Penn came back from the dead and admitted I'm way better.

Richard Avedon’s dead??? He just answered 5 questions for my blog!!!

So talk me through an average day in the life of you?

I wake up, check my emails, and try to accomplish one goal by 5pm.

Well I’m happy to be your accomplishment for the day.

Describe Michael as a little kid to me?

Romantic, lonely, shy, sarcastic, and always dreaming.

And has much changed since then?

Not really.

Stop being sooo ‘Jane Austen’!

How did you get into Photography, and can you remember the first photo you took?

I took a basic course in College, and the rest is history. I can't remember the first image I shot, which is probably best forgotten in the mists of time.

So what journey did you then take to get to where you're at now?

If you asked me this question 4 years ago, I would not even know how to answer it. Back then I never shot people at all. I was way too shy to approach people, so I focused on places and things. About 3 years ago I decided to go out of my comfort zone and start shooting agency models. I haven't looked back since.

How would you describe your photographic style?

Character and purity are my hallmarks but I leave the rest to the imaginations of others.

And what would you like someone to take away from a Michael Epps photograph?

I want them to stop, stare, and then go wow!

How would you describe your personal style? (Think Michael grabbing a quick coffee, or going out to dinner with friends)

I don't like quick coffee, or anything quick. I like to savor my food and have long interesting conversations with my friends in chic cafes in the west village.

So we’ll go with chic then. I think you got caught up in my ‘quick’ coffee comment and forgot all about your style.

Who have been some of your favorites to work with so far in your career?

I love them all, well most of them. I could never choose my fads publicly. ;-)

And do you have a bucket list of models/personalities that you'd love to get in front of your camera before you, ya know, kick the bucket?

There are so many. Right now I'm totally obsessed with Michael Fasbender. I'm also in love with Nicholas Hoult, Angelina Jolie, Rihanna, Michelle Obama, and like 5 pornstars.

A guilty pleasure you can’t seem to quit?

I don't believe in guilt. If I love it, I do it with gusto.

Which item of clothing in your closet gets most wear and why?

I probably wear my leather jacket way too much but I love it.

A celebrity crush of yours?

I'm really into Montgomery Clift, even though he's been dead for decades.

Oh for godsakes! Really???! Who keeps answering my 5 questions for me then? Is that Montgomery Clift profile on facebook not real then?!

A fine choice all the same though. Would you like to ask Portis Wasp a question?

What's your drink of choice?

A Sidecar. You cannot beat a classic cocktail and if done well two or three of them put me in the mood for some hijinks. If I happen to meet a potential suitor who has never heard of a Sidecar then the deal is off. You won't be playing with me in the taxi ride home later.

Can you talk about any projects you are working on at the moment or have in the pipeline?

I'm starting to focus more on fashion editorials, so expect more clothes stories, as well as some with no clothes at all.

Intriguing…

A song that makes your heart skip a beat?

‘Light as My Flo’ by Flora Purim. It's my mantra.

What never fails to make you smile?

A big dick.

Well that’s one way to silence me. Thanks Michael, you’ve been a pleasure! ;-)
