So it looks like I will FINALLY get to see Django Unchained this week – it has to be scheduled in to fit with my gym ass-whoopings - and I couldn’t be more excited. Not only is it directed by one of my favourite bad boy’s Quentin Tarantino but one of the characters in the film is called ‘Broomhilda’ – So, like, consider me sold. Oh, and it stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson and Leonardo DiCaprio (as the big bad), so you know it’s going to be money well spent.
Django Unchained tells the story of a freed slave (Foxx) who with the help of a German bounty hunter (Waltz) sets out to rescue his wife (Washington) from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner (DiCaprio). The film is the second in Tarantino’s unofficial revenge trilogy. Inglourious Basterds, which I expect you all to have watched, was the first film to tackle the subject of killing folk who do you wrong.
And on another note, the Django Unchained slave dolls have been pulled from sale. Cos apparently selling slave dolls is not cool. They do look very cool though in a ‘slightly’ offensive way but it’s Tarantino we’re talking about here. You either dig it or you don’t. And I dig it. Plus is it not more of a positive to be able to buy a Jamie Foxx or Kerry Washington doll rather another one of those generic Cindy’s or Barbie’s? Anyways, I am super stoked and will let you know what I think of the film next week.
