Interview with Stuart Reardon

Stuart Reardon by Leonardo Corredor

Hello Stuart! Would you like to introduce yourself to my readers?
Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well, and really enjoy reading this little interview!

That was awfully nice of you to say.  So anyways, talk me through an average day in the life of you?
An average day for me is...... Get up and have breakfast, go to work Personal Training, train myself, Rugby Training on an evening, and some days I also work as a support worker at a children's home, unfortunately I'm injured at the moment so I'm off for a few weeks while I recover from an achilles tendon operation.

Ouch - that sounds nasty!  Stuart, you are a rugby player, fitness trainer and model. I think that qualifies you as a ‘triple-threat’ mate! How does that feel?
I guess it feels good to be a triple-threat, ha ha, you never know what's going to happen in life so its always good to have options open.

Any plans to release a single? Ha ha – only kidding. But what would your single sound like if you released one?
Ha ha, no plans to release a single, I wish I was that good.  But if I did I'm a big fan of Ed Sheeran so I would want it to sound like his music.

That sounds like a safe bet for chart success!  Let’s talk about the rugby first. I don’t really know how the game works to be honest cos I’m a table tennis player, so as you can imagine playing with a ball that is larger than 40mm in diameter completely baffles me! How old were you when you started playing and what interested you in the game?
I started playing Rugby League at 10 years old. I got into it through friends but instantly liked the competiveness of Rugby, the training involved, the skill and discipline it teaches you, the highs of winning and also how to deal with the lows of losing, the camaraderie of team sports and sports in general is great for anyone to be involved in.  It's played a big part in shaping me into the person I am today.

Now that you are fully grown and playing in the Pro Rugby league for the North Wales Crusaders do you get the same thrills from the game as you did when you were a youngster?
Yes, you still get the same thrills of winning and achieving things as a pro as you do as a youngster, the only difference is it's more serious as a pro as you get paid to play, so there is more pressure to win and perform.  As a youngster it's more about the fun, competing, improving, learning, no pressure. only what you put on yourself by being a competitive person/player.

Can you explain to me what a ‘scrum’ is all about? To me it just looks like a whole lot of ear pulling and some kicking of the rugby ball between each other’s legs until it falls out of the scrum – and then someone runs away with it?
Ha ha, I guess it does look like that sometimes, a scrum happens when a player in either team knocks the ball forward onto the ground, which is called a knock on, so a scrum is formed to restart play with the team that didn't knock starting with the ball to feed into the scrum and restart play.

Um - okay.  You’ve not shot for Dieux du Stade yet, have you?
No I have not shot for the Dieux du stade Calendar, I've never been asked.

What’s that all about, eh?
I know ha ha...... maybe one day.

I think we should start a campaign for 2014!  Now a lot of my readers will probably know you more for your recent foray into modelling rather that rugby ‘thing’.   How did you get started in modelling?
I just thought I would give it go, I'm in sports so I'm in good shape all year round, I think life is about trying new things, learning new skills, you never know where things will take you, or the people you will meet if you don't experience or try new things, everyone always says life is short so live it to the full, so most of the time I try to.

So true. That's why I tried a spin class for the first time last week.  Didn't like it.

Who was your first shoot with and what was the experience like? Were you nervous? Excited? Or were you thinking about Rugby the whole time? Tell all…
My first shoot was with Rory Lewis a photographer from the UK, my girlfriend paid for me to get some pictures done as a present, she's really nice like that is Em's.  The shoot was really good.  Rory was really nice, and I enjoyed it.  I was nervous like anyone would be as I had no experience, we got some good pictures which I used to progress in modelling.

And now you’ve shot with lots of photographers for lots of projects! What has been some of your favourite modelling jobs to work on – and why?
I really enjoyed my time travelling to America, I spent most of my time in NYC and Miami, I worked with great photographers, met some great friends.  The whole trip is my best experience to date and I'm glad I had the opportunity to do it.

Do any of your rugby playing pals ever tease you about the modelling? Locker rooms can be unforgiving!
Yes now and again that's what camaraderie in sport is like, lads always take the micky out of each other, that's just the way it is.  It's good fun and I can give as good as I get so I don't mind the banter.

So do you see yourself continuing to model, and if so, what would be your dream job?
I don't really know if I'll continue in modelling, I will just see what happens.... Dream job? A major underwear line, aftershave, commercial, become an actor in movies - these would be dream jobs for anyone.

I must also mention your personal training. Tell me a little about that, and what services you offer? Like, for example, is there a special exercise you can recommend for anyone who doesn’t like exercise but wants a really good body?
Ha ha, there isn't one, if there was we could make millions off it as people would definitely want to know what it was, a Healthy Diet can help you gain a good body, but exercise is always needed. No Pain, No Gain.

I won't lie.  I'm really disappointed to hear that Stuart, and even more disappointed to be booked into the gym for the next four nights on the trot.

Now, I don’t have a problem with exercise and actually tricked myself into thinking it was really fun last October and haven’t stopped since. Only I’m not happy with my pecs. They’re a bit too small for my liking. What would you recommend I do to build them up?
Ha ha, snap I'm not happy with my pec's, I want to make them bigger.  That's the thing with training, there is always something you want to improve on your body, training becomes very addictive which isn't a bad thing, as I'm definitely addicted to training and its not done me any harm. Try Hypertrophy Training it increases the size of muscle.

Noted.  How do you like your eggs in the morning?
I like mine with a kiss, ha ha.... Poached eggs on a bed of spinach leaves.

Which item of clothing in your closet gets the most wear and why?
Sportswear as I train a lot; shorts, t-shirt, socks, or casual jeans and a t-shirt.

What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done for money?
A labouring job whilst I was at school.  It was so boring, putting plastic lids and handles on plastic paint cans for hours on a rotating conveyor belt.

God, that sounds awful.  Which flavour of ice cream best describes your personality?
Ben & Jerry's Caramel Chew Chew.

Lol!  Would you like to ask Portis Wasp a question?
How long have you been a blogger?

I have been a blogger for four years now, and it has probably aged me by about eight years.

So what happens next?
Who knows? I wish I could see my future, life would be so much easier. I'll keep you posted if anything good happens for me.

Oh I'm sure a lot of good things are in your future mate.  Thanks Stuart!

A very enjoyable interview. Stu seems to be a well balanced personality with great heart and humanity to him. While I'm sure he was being modest, he does have great potential in modeling. The camera loves him and he responds to it well. Gotta go look at his calendar now!!! Supernova!!!

  3. who makes the pants he's wearing? they're chic. oh, and he's "be" to the "yond." this site is lucks deluxe. but yeah, the pant.
