Style Stings: Meze 11 Deco Earphones

If you are anything like me and music is something you wake up with, spend the day with, and go to sleep with (yes I am single) then you will understand how utterly paralysing it is to lose your only pair of earphones.  This happened to me the night before boarding a train to London a couple of weeks ago, and had it not been for my friend lending me a pair for the journey, I fear I might have killed someone on that train.  Or worse, given the businessman sat beside me a handy in the vein hope he would give me a lend of his Bang & Olufsen H6 headphones.

I really cannot function without music, and had it not been for those borrowed pair of earphones, I may have done all manner of terrible things on that train.

When I returned from London the search party was sent out (into my bedroom and soul) in the hope of finding my trusty earphones lying in some dank corner singing to themselves but after an hour of cursing and throwing things around my room in a brutish fashion, like you might expect Stanley to throw Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire, I called off the search. January could go to hell for all I cared and I shambled off to bed.

Now if this was a film directed by Tim Burton it would start snowing right now, a fantastical score would kick in, and my laptop having turned itself on would reveal to the audience one unread message in my inbox.

According to their website, Meze headphones embody the classical values of clarity, balance and harmony. These are timeless, classic devices to fall in love with. They are not trend pieces and are not intended to last for just a season. Meze achieve this standard by combining high-end technology and style with quality materials and good craftsmanship. They have a passion for perfect sound and created their range of headphones as if making them for themselves.  Developed by a team of sound engineers, product designers, craftsmen, and musicians, Meze is born out of their passion and commitment to pure sound.

Is it not one hell of a crazy coincidence that I should wake the morning after mourning the disappearance of my beloved earphones to an email from Meze asking if I'd like to review a pair of their 11 Deco range earphones?!  I kid you not.

As I read further, one of Meze's helpful audiophiles explained; the 11 Deco is designed for those who already have a musical identity and highlights the role that earphones play as a iconic item. Machined aluminum and beech wood body and an 8mm driver deliver a crystal clear sound suitable for all styles of music.  Furthering our pursuit for pure expression through design, the Meze 11 Deco earphones are a stylish yet practical device. It's more than an electronic gadget. It's your next favorite accessory.
Which brings us to today, and my review of Meze's 11 Deco earphones!  Now that I have had a good week to put these beautifully handcrafted earphones to the test I can talk with confidence when I say that Meze really do know how to make a good pair of earphones.  Not only has the sound quality been great when using them with my iPhone - crystal clear in fact - but the design itself of the 11 Deco's is worthy of a few plaudits due to their uber charming and discreet finish.  Much care has been given to making sure their earphones are as stylish as they are practical, and I would agree with Meze's claim that the 11 Deco's will become a favourite accessory for those of us who like to make a style statement however large or small.

For a pair of Meze 11 Deco earphones you will be looking to pay €65 which works out at around £54 at current exchange rate.  They aren't cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but if you think about how much use you will get out of them, paying a little bit extra for a unique * and well-finished pair of earphones isn't something you're going to lose a lot of sleep over.

Wood grain varies from very light to very dark, patterned or unpatterned, making each pair of  Meze 11 Deco's unique.
