Interview with Max Rogers

Hey Max! How are you?
I’m very well thanks Portis, it’s been a while! How are you?

I'm great thanks mate!

Talk me through an average day in the life of you?
Hopefully there is no such thing as average in the life of a model. Every day is different when I’m busy. Although, I will always find time to train wherever I am and whatever I’m doing!

So whilst everyone might expect me to launch into asking what it’s like to date a Pussycat Doll, I’ll show reserve and instead ask you what it’s like to be part of the iconic Tommy Hilfiger family?!
It’s such a privilege to be a part of the Hilfiger family, not least because the campaigns have turned out to be so iconic for such an iconic brand but also because the team that Trey Laird has put together to make up the cast and crew have become such good friends.

We meet up with the same group every 6 months and hang out for a week or so and as a model, my life is spent mostly traveling and working alone, which means these jobs are quite unique and a lot of fun. It has genuinely become a bit like meeting up as a real family!

As you well know, the Hilfiger’s love to holiday, and you’re always so matchy matchy in your family photos! That’s some dedication. But does it ever get a little too much spending so much time with each other?
Karl Templar and his team have absolutely smashed the styling on these campaigns, they captured the family bond and unique characters of each member perfectly and that’s part of the fun of it all.

These guys are some of the best friends I have in the industry and I go as far as to actually socialise with a lot of them outside the campaigns as well. So it seems we can’t spend enough time together!

Who do you think would win in a fight if the The Hilfiger’s ever made the mistake of holidaying in Sicily and ran into La Famiglia de Dolce & Gabbana?
Why? What have they been saying about us??

Oh I totally can't get into it here, Domenico's a big fan of my work!  So how did you get into modelling, Max?
I had finished University and whilst looking for work I started with a local modelling agency, who sent me to Milan Fashion Week with no pictures and no clue what I was doing but on that trip I met Cat and Sarah from Storm and they along with Jason Kanner at Soul Artist Management in New York have looked after me ever since.

And now that you are at the stage in your career where we can call you an established face, is modelling something you could quite happily do for the next ten years or do you have aspirations outside of the fashion industry that you would like to pursue?
I don’t take anything for granted and although it’s nice to be seen as an established face (thanks) I plan to keep working hard to keep progressing and if I manage that I would love to keep going in this industry because there is a lot more I still want to achieve.

However, I am also working very hard on my production company, which was born out of my passion for writing and directing. So far that has been going well, I won a few awards for my short film ‘Tea for Two’, so with some hard graft I plan to be making films and modelling for a while yet.

'Tea for Two' you say?

Having worked with countless fashion photographers over the years you will now know instinctively how to execute a flawless pose. Can you help this wasp out and give me some advice on how to take a great selfie? (One which might lead to a casting director discovering me on Instagram and casting me for a really big campaign would be really helpful!)
Haha!! Forget Selfies, especially for vanity. I can’t get on with that concept!  People who know what you look like don’t need reminding on social media and people who don’t know what you look like are better off finding out for real rather than in an arms-length photo pulling a daft squashed up kissing face!

If ever you take one, let it be for a reason more than vanity, otherwise we will all drive ourselves nuts! You looking like you is already flawless (and that is actually the secret to modelling as well). Plus, if everyone gets too good at selfies, I’ll be out of a job!

Omg I think you just called me flawless!!!

You have also spoken about your skin and nutrition in the past at great length, which I found quite helpful. What top tips would you give to someone who might have problems with their skin and how they might go about fixing any issues they might have?
The way I worked through my problems was to consider what was going on inside rather than try to fix it from the outside. I analysed the effect that different foods had on me but those effects are unique to each individual so I suggest testing it out for yourself and see what works and what doesn’t work for you. For me, juicing helps and keeping away from crisps is hard but necessary!

I think a safe and general rule though is to get enough sleep, drink enough water and only use products that are essential to your routine and when they are needed. In my case I try to keep it to just moisturiser and if I need help or have a face full of make-up I will use a face wash, sometimes a night repair and occasionally Prime & Create but unless absolutely necessary I only use a moisturiser and let my skin sort itself out, which after trying everything, seems to be the best way to do it!

Am I allowed to ask about you cutting off your magical curly hair and if you lost any of your supermodel powers when you did it?
Haha! Of course you can ask about it but I will leave the opinion of whether I lost any powers to you? Let’s hope not! I cut it even shorter now and I’m definitely loving the super power of being able to get ready quicker in the morning!

You are engaged to Kimberly Wyatt, who is arguably the world’s most favourite member of the Pussycat Dolls due to her insane ability to bend and snap her body into iconic poses. Is life with Kim what I expect it to be, full of impromptu dance-offs and double dates with Scherzy and Lewis Hamilton?
I’m actually married to her now and I don’t know about the world’s favourite but she is definitely my favourite!

What?!  And my non invite to this happened when?

I’m sure I don’t have to ask you who your favourite member of PCD was before you’d met Kimberly, right?
I gotta be honest, PCD weren’t my thing.

Sacrilege!

I met Kim with no idea who she was, or who my favourite Doll was but I met the coolest girl I know and it turns out that I ended up liking one or two of the girls’ tracks as well and her solo album for Her Majesty & The Wolves was mint. I marched round NYC for a whole season listening to that!

Aww that's kind of cute.  How do you like to spend your time when you’re not working?
Loving film is what inspired me to start making films so I love to watch films at home or in the cinema. I love being at home because despite the privilege of getting to travel a lot, I miss it when I’m gone. Being in the park with mates has been good this summer as well; the weather in London has been so good this year!

It most certainly has.  If I offered to buy you a one way ticket to anywhere in the world, what destination would you choose and why?
I love London, that’s why I choose to live here. The people, the history, the culture is mint. I’m happy to be surprised with a trip to the Galapagos though. Would be a cool place to take a wide angle lens!

A guilty pleasure you can’t seem to quit?
Tom Ford. His attention to detail is inspiring!

So where do we go from here?
Wanna get some lunch?

Totally.
